About Michael

Michael Sakamoto is a multidisciplinary artist active in dance, theater, performance, and media whose works have been presented in 15 countries worldwide. As a scholar and writer, he has been published in many journals and anthologies, and his book monograph, An Empty Room: Imagining Butoh and the Social Body in Crisis, was released by Wesleyan University Press in 2022. Michael currently works as performing arts curator and Asian and Asian American Arts and Culture program director at the UMass Fine Arts Center.
