About David
Movement-based theater since 1981; David Dorfman Dance (DDD) since 1987. Next up for DDD: (A)Way Out of My Body, NYU’s Skirball Center, April 22–23, 2022; next, next up: Truce Song. David has received a “Bessie” Award for DDD’s community-based project Familiar Movements (The Family Project); a Guggenheim for research on power and protest, leading to DDD’s underground; NEAs; a “Lortel” for choreographing INDECENT Off-Broadway; and a 2019 USA Fellowship. DDD’s 30th anniversary was celebrated at BAM’s Next Wave Festival, Aroundtown, 2017; DDD traveled on a State Department-sponsored trip to El Salvador to work on violence prevention with young people. David loves live music and collaboration, and relishes the serio-comic series, Live Sax Acts, with Dan Froot. Since 2004, David has been a full-time faculty at Connecticut College, where DDD has been Company-in-Residence since 2007. He adores Lisa Race and Samson Race Dorfman.
