About Daniel
Daniel McCusker makes dances, teaches, and curates performances. He is an Associate Professor at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and a Tufts University Emeritus Senior Lecturer. His choreographic work has been presented nationally in a variety of venues, including the Los Angeles Getty Art Museum; the Newport Great Friends Meeting House; Portland Performing Arts Center; Portland Museum of Art; Danspace Project, Jacob’s Pillow, and in a myriad of self-produced concerts in Cambridge, Providence, Portland and New York. His writing has been published in PAJ. His work has been supported by private individuals, foundation grants, NYSCA, the Maine Arts Commission, and the NEA. He served as the artistic director of Ram Island Dance, in Portland ME, made dances for Island Moving Company and other regional companies. Between 1977–84, and again 1990–91, he performed internationally and in New York seasons, with the Lucinda Childs Dance Company. Born in the Bronx, he studied ballet at Alfredo Corvino's studio, modern dance at the Cunningham Studio, and improvisation with Judy Padow. Classes and workshops with Gwyneth Jones and Olivier Besson have had an impact on his dances, his teaching, and his dancing.
