About Avery Gerhardt
Avery Gerhardt began her pre-professional training at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, TX, where she studied ballet, modern, and composition. After graduating from HSPVA, Gerhardt shaped her passion for choreography and collaboration at the Boston Conservatory where she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Performance. At university, she was fortunate to travel and work with artists such as Chien-Ming Chang, Miguel Gutierrez, Peter Jasko, Alex Ketley, Shamel Pitts, Mitsuru Sazaki, Eduardo Torroja and Doug Varone. Over the span of her career, Gerhardt has co-created and directed several evening-length works, including What's the Point? (2017) with colleague Tara-Jean Canlon, and her most recent 1134: A Study on Loadbearing. Gerhardt has been commissioned to stage shorter works for venues such as the Institute for Contemporary Art—Boston and Match Midtown Arts Center. She continues to build her body of repertoire, alongside her practice of performing, dramaturgy, writing, and directing.
